15 Nollywood Movies You Must See this year 2016

So I decided to set up a post for nigerian movies I think everyone should watch in this year 2016 sequel to a previous thread opened about hollywood movies to be watched in the first quarter to middle of the
year. The list is in no particular order..feel free to add
yours.





1. Falling

Falling is a 2015 Nigerian romantic drama film written
and produced by Uduak Isong Oguamanam, and directed
by Niyi Akinmolayan. It stars Desmond Elliot , Blossom
Chukwujekwu , Tamara Eteimo, Koffi Adjorlolo and
Adesua Etomi.
The film narrates the story of a young couple, Muna
(Adesua Etomi) and Imoh (Kunle Rhemmy); Muna has to
live with the effects of an accident which has left Imoh
deeply unconscious for several months.

2. Fifty

Fifty captures few pivotal days of four women at the
pinnacle of their careers. Tola, Elizabeth, Maria and Kate
are four friends forced at midlife to take inventory at their
personal lives, while juggling career and family against
the backdrops of the neighbourhoods of Lagos.
Tola is a reality TV star whose marriage to lawyer Kunle
never stood a chance thanks to an invidious family
secret. Elizabeth is a celebrated obstetrician whose
penchant for younger men has estranged her from her
daughter. Maria, a forty nine-year old has an affair with a
married man that results in an unexpected pregnancy and
Kate's battle with a life-threatening illness has plugged
her into religious obsession.

3. Entreat

Entreat is a story that reveals the daily challenges
of young adults in a dynamic society like ours, and
the individual strategy people employ to overcome
these challenges.
The movie which features Dakore Akande, Bryan
Okwara, Alexx Ekubo, Osas Ajibade, Wale Ojo, Wole
Ojo, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Sadiq Daba, Kemi
Lala-A kindoju, Femi Jacobs, Stephanie Coker,
Zainab Balogun and more is set to hit our big
screens come Friday, 29th April 2016.
It’s a must watch for every young adult out there,

4. Fine girl

Directed by Ikechukwu Onyeka and co-written by Rita
Onwurah and Bunmi Aj, Fine Girl is the story of a young
lady’s struggles through the hurdles a critical family
issue places before her and how much she has to
sacrifice in order to salvage the situation.

5. Wives on strike.


Wives on Strike, is a hilarious comedy about a group of
market women who decided to take matters into their own
hands against their husbands in a bid to stir them into
standing up for a young girl whom they wanted to protect
from the wishes of her own father. The women, who
hilariously interpret their roles, set a series of events in
motion to give the movie many moments of laughter without
missing a beat on the reason for everyone to know why they
are on strike.

6. Dry


Dry is a Nigerian drama film directed by Stephanie
Linus and starring Stephanie Okereke , Liz Benson,
William McNamara , Darwin Shaw and Paul Sambo. On 20
July 2013, a teaser trailer for the film was released, in
response to the Child marriage controversy ongoing in
Nigeria at the time.
The film's theme focuses on Vesicovaginal fistula
condition and underaged marriage among young women,
narrating the story of a thirteen-year-old girl, Halima
(Zubaida Ibrahim Fagge), whose poor uneducated
parents marry her off to Sani (Tijjani Faraga), a 60-year-
old man, who constantly rapes her. Halima gets pregnant
and suffers Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) after child
delivery; she's consequently abandoned by her husband
and discriminated against in the society. Zara (Stephanie
Okereke), a medical doctor who also suffered a horrific
childhood meets Halima; she tries to help her get through
her situation and also save other young women under
such circumstance.

7. Beyond blood


“ Beyond Blood ” is a must watch movie directed by
Nollywood veteran Greg Odutayo .
The movie, produced by Debbie Odutayo , stars Kehinde
Bankole, Joseph Benjamin, Deyemi Okanlawon, Carol King,
Bimbo Manuel, Wole Ojo, Okey Uzoeshi, Shan George,
Francis Onwochei, Uzor Osimkpa, Ifeanyi Kalu, Ijeoma
Grace Agu and Marion Bott .
It is a captivating story of self-discovery,
where a woman, after a series of
uncontrollable events, decides to run away
from her fears and consequently reaches her
breaking point and gets caught in a cycle of
unpleasant circumstances.

8.Road to yesterday

Road To Yesterday is a 2015 Nigerian road romantic
drama film directed by Ishaya Bako . It stars Genevieve
Nnaji and Oris Erhuero in lead roles, with Majid Michel
and Chioma 'Chigul' Omeruah in supporting roles. [3] The
film, which is co-produced by Genevieve Nnaji, is the
actress' first effort as a producer.
Road to Yesterday tells the story of an estranged married
couple, hoping to mend their strained marriage whilst on
a road trip to a relative’s funeral.

9. '76

Six years after the civil war, a young officer from the
middle belt got entangled in a romantic relationship
with a young lady from the southeastern part of Nigeria.
Their budding romance was almost ruptured with the
daunting task of military posting. Now heavily pregnant,
her world came crumbling when news of her husband’s
involvement in a botched coup attempt hit the
headlines.

10. Stalker


The movie, which tells the story of a troubled woman and an
obsessed male, stars Jim Iyke, Nse Ikpe-Etim, AY, Anthony
Monjaro, Emem Inwang and Caroline Danjuma, who is also
the producer of the movie.
The movie also features cameo appearances from Niyola
and Omawumi.

11. Fusion


Fusion is a romantic comedy that explores the unfolding
realities of life that newlyweds experience as they negotiate
the dynamic curves thrown at them by marriage.
The movie stars AY, Ireti Doyle, Beverly Naya, Victor
Olaitan, Yvonne Jegede, Seun Akindele, Buchi Franklin,
Peggy Ovire, Abiola Segun Williams, Onoge Tega Ben
amongst others.

14. Surulere

The movie, which tells the story of patience and
resilience, follows the life of a young, timid graduate,
Arinze (played by Seun Ajayi) desperate to beat his
financial burdens. In his journey, he meets a charming
go-getter, Omosigho (played by Beverly Naya).
Their meeting shoots off a series of events that pressure
Arinze into a get-rich-quick scheme.

15. The visit

‘The Visit’ is a four cast movie and it is the story of two
couples living together in the same house, but with
completely different lifestyles. Their parallel lifestyle at a
point colluded and the resulting effect were an intriguing
plot and sub-plot.

of Tinsel and Desperate Housewives Africa and a lead role
by TV sweetheart Bolanle Olukanni of Moments on

Also in the movie are celebrated actors Wole Ojo ,
Emmanuel Ikubese, Tayo Faniran of Big Brother Africa and

* The CEO
(this is another blockbuster coming from Kunle Afolayan)

Set mainly on a beautiful beach resort on the outskirts of
Lagos in Nigeria, “The CEO” is a mystery-thriller
surrounding five top executives from across Africa who are
despatched on a 1-week leadership retreat by a
multinational telecommunications firm, to determine which
one to appoint as the firm’s new CEO. Things go awry when
one-by-one the executives are eliminated in sudden death
circumstances, and the finger falls on the last two remaining
executive as prime suspects.
